Alexandra Aldrich – The Astor Orphan

Alexandra Aldrich, a direct descendant of the famous Astor dynasty, grew up in the servants’ quarters of Rokeby, the forty-three-room Hudson Valley mansion built by her ancestors and inherited by her father.

He didn’t, however, inherit any money, so all the family’s resources went into the house’s maintenance, and they lived in the grand falling-down house, scavenging for their next meal. Her childhood was one of bohemian neglect and real privation. Join as she tells the story of her eccentric, fractured family, from the Gilded Age on, as recounted in her debut memoir, The Astor Orphan.
