On Angela Lansbury’s Broadway Career

To celebrate her ninetieth birthday, Tony Vellela highlights life and remarkable career of Dame Angela Lansbury, winner of five Tony Awards, six Golden Globes, an Olivier and an Honorary Oscar.

Focusing on her Broadway endeavors, Mr. Vellela will share exclusive video interviews he conducted with Ms. Lansbury, discussing her legendary performances in Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s Sweeney Todd, or the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Jerry Herman’s smash hit Mame and her iconic portrayal of Madame Rose in Gypsy. According to creators Arthur Laurents and Sondheim, it was her performance that resurrected their musical from being considered only a vehicle for Ethel Merman.
