Ariel Rivka Dance: Ninth Season Festival

To celebrate Ariel Rivka Dance’s 9th season, the company premieres three works, all of which meld live, original music with a range of elegant and bold movements. In Hallelujah Eva, five women dancers explore solitude, and consequently find empowerment through shared experience. Beatrice’s Rainbow features a sprightly trio reveling in the innocence and purity of early life.  With a pulsating live score, Variations on a Box drives the full company of eight dancers to explore the constraints of shape and sound. ARD also reprises Ori from its acclaimed repertoire, a passion-filled work for 7 graceful dancers set to a vigorous and lush score of amplified cellos.

Heidi Latksy Dance will present several short timestamps about endurance, persistence and survival that will eventually become part of an evening length work titled TIMESTAMPed.

Elisa King will perform her own solo choreography, Sky Blue, to the song by Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra, and features a solo on soprano saxophone by Steve Wilson. The recording is used with the kind permission of Maria Schneider.

Celebrated for his bold and unexpected interpretations of familiar classical scores, Artistic Director of RIOULT Dance NY Pascal Rioult presents two of his most recognizable works. Wien, set to Ravel’s “La Valse,” references the era between the two world wars and dissolution of society as it is swept up in the vortex of impending evil. Bolero is a striking interpretation of Ravel’s famous musical score. Its perpetual motion and ever-changing patterns build to an inevitable climax, creating a riveting tour de force.
