smart things to do nyc this weekNoah Charney, art crime expert, art historian and author of the new book The Art of Forgery, is joined by art critic Blake Gopnik to discuss the most intriguing and notorious art forgeries of all time. They’ll examine the motivations and psychological profiles of the artists and criminals who have faked great works of art. There will be a book signing, with books available for purchase, following this event.

Noah Charney is a writer, professor and art his­torian and is the founder and president of ARCA, the Association for Research into Crimes against Art, a non-profit research group on issues in art crime. Charney is the author of numerous articles and a novel, The Art Thief (2007). He is American born and lives in Slovenia.

Blake Gopnik is an American art critic based in New York. He is a critic-at-large for Artnet News, and writes for The New York Times and The Art Newspaper. He is currently at work on an Andy Warhol biography.
