The discussion will be about the state institutions of Massachusetts– the rise and fall of the state hospital system and the future of the abandoned giants and their place in popular culture.

Kate Anderson is a special education teacher, photographer and author from Western Massachusetts. She began photographing and researching state hospitals over a decade ago, having visited more than forty asylums for the insane. She has been lecturing on the topic of asylums and mental health since 2006 and she has released two volumes of collected state hospital and state school history as well as a novel set at Northampton State Hospital.
