Better with Age: Lighter as We Go

Twenty year olds dread thirty; forty year olds fear fifty; sixty fears seventy and so it goes.  And there is something to worry about, though it isn’t what you’d expect. In fact, there is abundant research showing that, contrary to popular belief, our sense of well-being often increases during later midlife and older age. Join Mindy Greenstein, a 51-year-old psychologist, and Jimmie Holland, an 86-year-old psychiatrist, to explore positive psychology concepts of of character strengths and virtues that can help us better understand the ways in which life can get “lighter as we go.”

Mindy Greenstein, PhD, is Clinical Psychologist and Psycho-oncologist, Writer and National Speaker, and Consultant to the geriatric psychiatry group in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Jimmie Holland, MD, is Wayne E. Chapman Chair in Psychiatric Oncology, Attending Psychiatrist, and Founder of the geriatric psychiatry group at the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Professor of Psychiatry at Weill Medical School of Cornell University.

Lisa D. Grant, Ph.D, is Professor of Jewish Education at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and is currently facilitating the Wise Aging Group at CBE.
