It’s Edgars (TM) Awards week in New York, which means the nation’s mystery writers have come to town to celebrate the genre. In this conversation, four crime novelists will discuss the dark alleys of writing and publishing, and what it really takes to live a life of crime.
Featured writers include:
Lori Rader-Day, author of The Day I Died, The Black Hour, and Little Pretty Things, is the recipient of the 2016 Mary Higgins Clark Award and the 2015 Anthony Award for Best First Novel. Lori’s short fiction has appeared in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, Time Out Chicago, Good Housekeeping, and others. She lives in Chicago, where she is the president of the Mystery Writers of America Midwest Chapter.
Reed Farrel Coleman is called a hard-boiled poet by NPR’s Maureen Corrigan and the “noir poet laureate” in the Huffington Post. Reed Farrel Coleman is the New York Times bestselling author of Robert B. Parker’s Jesse Stone series. He is also the author of the Gus Murphy series for Putnam. Reed is a three-time recipient of the Shamus Award for Best PI Novel of the Year and a four-time Edgar Award nominee in three different categories. He’s also won the Audie, Macavity, Barry, and Anthony Awards. He lives with his wife on Long Island.
Julia Dahl is a journalist specializing in crime and justice. Her first novel, INVISIBLE CITY, was a finalist for the Edgar Award and was named one of the Boston Globe’s Best Books of 2014. She is also the author of RUN YOU DOWN and most recently, CONVICTION. Julia lives in Brooklyn and writes for CBSNews.com.
Alex Segura is a novelist and comic book writer. He is the author of the Miami crime novels featuring Pete Fernandez, SILENT CITY, DOWN THE DARKEST STREET and DANGEROUS ENDS, all via Polis Books. He has also written a number of comic books, including the best-selling and critically acclaimed ARCHIE MEETS KISS storyline, the “Occupy Riverdale” story, ARCHIE MEETS RAMONES and the upcoming THE ARCHIES one-shot. He lives in New York with his wife and son. He is a Miami native.
