Canada’s 2012 Polaris Prize: A Panel Discussion

Canada’s Polaris Music Prize – an annual, juried award given to the artist deemed to have released the best Canadian album of the year – has in seven short years come to rival the UK’s Mercury Prize in stature. The 2012 Polaris Prize, which went to Feist for her third album, Metals, was announced in September, and this panel discussion – led by Polaris founder Steve Jordan and featuring three leading American music critics: Alan Light, former editor-in-chief of Vibe and Spin and a Contributing Editor to Rolling Stone; and Maura Johnston, freelance writer and adjunct professor at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute; more TBA – will take a detailed look at 2012’s ten-album short list.

In addition to Feist, those short-listed included Drake (for Take Care), Kathleen Edwards (for Voyageur), Grimes (for Visions), Japandroids (for Celebration Rock), and Cold Specks (for I Predict a Graceful Expulsion), among others. Don’t miss this intimate look at ten highly celebrated Canadian albums; the discussion will be highlighted by music and video clips, as well as a surprise or two.
