Cantata Profana “When Words Fail”

Cantata Profana: When Words Fail, a Spotlight Series event in honor of Nathan Ackerman. This program explores the struggle to express the inexpressible.  From Handel’s cantata La Lucrezia, and Shostakovich’s “Song of Ophelia,” to Beethoven’s sublime An die ferne Geliebte– addressed to a beloved at an impossible remove.  Modern offerings from Reena Esmail and Tonia Ko explore ideas of distance, literal and figurative. “Intrepid and unexpected concerts” – The New Yorker
