Commerce and capitalism rarely smile upon the dedicated writer. Too many of our favorite contemporary authors struggle simply to pay rent. Novelists Porochista Khakpour, Simon Van Booy, and Matthew Aaron Goodman will each address this topic. With music provided by Travis Laplante.
Porochista, via an autobiographical essay she wrote for Canteen, will confront the harsh realities of realizing her dreams of literary acclaim.
Simon Van Booy will address this topic via excerpts from his forthcoming novel, The Illusion of Separateness.
Matthew Aaron Goodman will unveil an epic poem he wrote for his young son--a series of lamentations and bits of advice regarding the relationships and choices between art and money. This poem is, in the eyes of Canteen's editors, this generation's Howl. (Seriously.)
Travis Laplante will dazzle with his wildly unique saxophone playing.
