Carter Burden Gallery Announces New Exhibitions by Re-Emerging Older Artists
Three new exhibitions featuring the unique artwork of more than a dozen re-emerging older artists will be on display from June 29th-July 20th at the Carter Burden Gallery located at 548 West 28th Street #534 in Manhattan. The Carter Burden Gallery showcases the vibrant, cutting-edge and transformative art that is the product of the unique cultural wealth possessed by older professional artists.
Inspired by the 1966 Lovin’ Spoonful song, Summer in the City celebrates the early days of the season in the East Gallery. It features 14 gallery artists who work in an eclectic range of mediums, including Olivia Beens, Myrna Burks, Karin Bruckner, Elisabeth Jacobsen, Robert Ludwig, Carol Massa, Margo Mead, Kate Misset, Rod Recor, Nieves Saah, Vera Sapozhnikova, Sheila Schwid, Angela Valeria, and Jerry Vezzuso,.
In East Harlem Diptychs in the West Gallery, Ellen Wallenstein presents photographs that illustrate the vibrancy of one of Manhattan’s transitioning neighborhoods. These East Harlem images show the artist’s interest in the multi-cultural signs and symbols that represent the people who live there. A teacher and book artist, Wallenstein is interested in the sequencing of photographs and how their positions relative to one another can influence what is being conveyed.
In On the Wall, Barbara Lubliner presents Upcycled Tubes: Assert, Defend, Surrender & Youngsters in her first solo show at Carter Burden Gallery. For this installation, Lubliner utilizes discarded cardboard tubes to elicit body language and the pared down form of individuals. By re-purposing trash into playful art, Lubliner shifts the focus from environmental blight to creative production.
