China’s Investment Challenges and Opportunities: Perspectives From a Local Long/Short Fund Manager

CI logo squareChina is now the 2nd largest economy in the world and perhaps the most controversial. With 2016 being the first year of China’s 13th Five-Year Plan, and with China’s economy entering a major period of transformation – the question arises: What are the investment challenges and opportunities for China focused funds?

To help answer these questions, China Institute is fortunate to welcome speakers George Jiang and Joseph Zeng from Greenwoods Asset Management, one of the largest China hedge fund managers in the world, specializing in managing funds investing into China companies. In 2015, the most tumultuous year in Chinese equities in a decade, Greenwoods’ Golden China Fund returned almost 22 percent. It joins three other Asia-based funds near the top of Bloomberg’s ranking of the 50 best-performing hedge funds worldwide with assets of $1 billion or more last year. Greenwoods was recently awarded The Golden Yangtze River Award, the Industry Role Model in the Fund Managers Management Industry for Year 2015 in Shenzhen, by Securities Times. Securities Times is an official newspaper focusing on China’s equities market, and it is one of the newspapers appointed by Chinese financial regulators, such as CSRC, CBRC and CIRC, for official disclosures.
