Deidre Heekin and Caleb Barber Wine Tasting Event

Blue RibbonAt Blue Ribbon Downing Street Bar we have never hidden our predilection for wines from odd places and for most wine drinkers, there are few places stranger than Vermont. And yet there they are, on the list: credible and even delicious wines, made from varieties few of us have ever encountered.Well, at the head of the wagon train on this viticultural frontier are . Deidre and Caleb have operated Osteria Pane e Salute in Woodstock, VT for many years, putting out delicious, handmade Italian food made mostly from things they grow themselves. But in 2008, they began to expand beyond an ordinary kitchen garden by planting vines on the slope below their farmhouse. Since then, the project has taken on a life of its own. Today they make wine from not only their own vines but from several Lake Champlain vineyards as well. As with most young estates in places where there is relatively little history, they are constantly experimenting. Join us as we welcome Deidre and Caleb to Blue Ribbon Downing St Bar. They will be talking and pouring all night from 9:30 onward. They will have their white Petillant “Coup de Foudre,” their skin-contact white wine “Vinu Jançu,” and a red wine made from Marquette, a hybrid grape that is considered the great hope by a lot of Northeastern grape growers who aspire to make serious red wines. They are as charming a couple as one may ever hope to meet. Trust us that this is a late night event you won’t want to miss.
