Dharma and Desire

Is there room for morality in a love story? In this Olio we will discuss the connections between two ancient myths (one Greek and the other Indian) and learn to apply them to our modern condition.

Dr. Adluri will present the Indian epic Ramayana as a parable for the initiation and psychoanalytic development of the “just soul.” Using the story of Persephone in the background allows us to understand the shape of ancient thought and its contemporary relevance in a new way.

Teacher: Vishwa Adluri

Vishwa Adluri teaches Philosophy and Religion at Hunter College NY. He specializes in Ancient Greek Philosophy, Ancient Indian Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, and Myth. He holds PhDs from the New School and University of Marburg, Germany. He recently published The Nay Science (Oxford University Press) and is the author of many books and articles.
