Dr. Adam Cox: “Making Their Mark: Why We Should Encourage Boys to Create”

The Children’s Arts Guild is proud to present a discussion about boys’ creativity and art making. Dr. Adam Cox, noted expert on the emotional and cognitive development of school-age children, will talk about the role of expression in boys’ lives and what compels them to be makers of all kinds of things. Many of us have seen that boys enjoy creative pursuits, but there are many unknowns as to why these activities matter to boys, and what specific benefits they derive. Is technique or content more important? What are the benefits of group creativity? How should we talk to boys about their creative interests and products? How do creative priorities change with age?

This presentation will help us to understand the motivation to create and how creating affects a boy’s identity, confidence, curiosity, and happiness. Dr. Cox will reveal what a global sample of boys said about art making and how art informs their understanding of life purpose. Please join us for what promises to be an informative and energizing evening. This is a unique opportunity to understand the ideals and interests of boys and to support the spirit of boyhood in ways that really matter.

Please join up for this special event. Space is limited, and reservations are required.

The event is hosted at Macy’s Herald Square.
