Emancipating Lincoln: The Proclamation in Text, Context, and Memory

In collaboration with the New-York Historical Society and Oxford University Press, the Bryant Park Reading Room presents a series of lectures on popular topics to stimulate your mind, including Civil War history, politics, biography and the economy.

In his new book, Emancipating Lincoln, “ Holzer uncovers a complex, imperfect man who was guided by practical considerations as he struggled to both preserve and perfect the Union" (Edna Greene Medford, Howard University). Join us for this lecture as Mr. Holzer examines the impact of Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation and how the interpretation of it has evolved over the past 150 years.
