Feminist Islam Is Not an Oxymoron

An interview by Leader Anne Klaeysen with Dr. Jerusha Tanner Lamptey
Clara Malekshahi Presides

So much about Islam is misunderstood, especially when it comes to women. Dr. Lamptey, an Assistant Professor of Islam and Ministry at Union Theological Seminary, is an expert on Muslima (Islamic feminist) theology. She earned a Ph.D. in Theological and Religious Studies with a focus on Religious Pluralism from Georgetown University and is the author of “Never Wholly Other: A Muslima Theology of Religious Pluralism,” which offers a re‐interpretation of the Qur’anic discourse on religious ‘otherness’. Currently, she is working on a new project focused on comparative feminist theology.
