The Feminist Press Launches: Drag Queen Story Hour Featuring Ona Louise

To celebrate the reissue of the classic children’s folklore collection Tatterhood, the Feminist Press will host Drag Queen Story Hour, inspired by RADAR Productions’ popular series in San Francisco. The series was initially part of RADAR’s Queering the Castro program, which aims to reclaim the radically queer roots of the Castro neighborhood. The Feminist Press will bring the series to New York, beginning with the first story hour for children held at Greenlight Bookstore on Saturday, August 6th. Ona Louise will share a story from Tatterhood.

A 1978 bestseller from the Feminist Press is reissued in a newly illustrated, four-volume series. In Tatterhood, the first volume, tales from Japan, Norway, Scotland, and Sudan feature decisive heroines of extraordinary courage, wit, and achievement—reminding us that girls everywhere have always been the heroes of their own stories.

Storyteller Ona Louise grew up in the buckle of the Bible Belt, but always dreamt of bright lights and big city living. Now glimmering in NYC, Ona is the caretaker of the garden of hopes and dreams, watering the young budding minds of the future.
