A Fireside Chat on Social Entrepreneurship

Companies are increasingly demonstrating their commitment to social good. B Corps, for-profit companies that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, have been growing rapidly throughout the past few years. Social enterprises are well positioned to create significant change, with business models that give equal importance to both profitability and social impact. Consumers’ desire to support socially-minded businesses has contributed to this growth. This trend is expected to continue in coming years as activism and social impact become integral parts of companies’ cultures and brands.

In April, The Active Citizen is excited to partner with bettercorp for an intimate fireside chat on the topic of social entrepreneurship. bettercorp is a for-profit benefit corporation that helps business generate positive value by improving social and environmental practices. bettercorp measures the impact businesses have on their workers, community, and environment. In doing so they are able to both identify areas for improvement and recognize existing positive impacts. We will be speaking with the founders of bettercorp, Austin Lee and Dana Hummel, to discuss their journey and motivations for starting bettercorp, how they are influencing businesses in the New York area to focus on social good, and their focus on reaching out to consumers to influence companies to increase their positive impact.

There will be ample time for questions and conversation throughout, as well as networking opportunities with other attendees. Group size is limited, please sign up early to reserve a spot! This event is ideal for socially-minded entrepreneurs and young professionals. Pizza and snacks will be served.
