Free! Special Book Launch: Every Father’s Daughter—Twenty-Four Women Writers Remember Their Fathers

book events nycOver the Memorial Day weekend, on Saturday May 23rd, there will be a very special literary event with the book launch of Every Father’s Daughter: Twenty-four Women Writers Remember Their Father. The book is a collection of personal essays by women authors writing about their fathers. Participating in this distinctive program, and celebrating the book’s publication, will be: Phillip Lopate, Lily Lopate, Melora Wolff and Johanna Gohmann, together with publisher Bruce McPherson.

Attendees also will be able to connect with 14 women authors, including Jane Smiley, at eight independent bookstores and writers’ centers across the nation, simultaneously via Skype to mark this special book launch.

The book is edited by Margaret McMullan, with the introduction provided by Phillip Lopate. The contributors include many well-known writers—Alice Munro, Jayne Anne Phillips, Alexandra Styron, Ann Hood, Bobbie Ann Mason, Maxine Hong Kingston—as well as writers less well-known, but no less cogent, inventive, perceptive, lacerating, questioning or loving of their fathers.

Phillip Lopate is an acclaimed personal essayist, his books include Bachelorhood, Against Joie de Vivre, and Portrait of My Body. Lily Lopate, currently a student at Bryn Mawr, has been managing editor at Bi-College News, and editor-in-chief of the literary magazine, Reflections.  Johanna Gohmann has contributed to numerous publications and anthologies, including The Best Women’s Travel Writing, Salon, The Chicago Sun-Times, Babble, Bust and Curve. Melora Wolff was named a Notable Essayist in Best American Essays 2012, and received a Special Mention in The Pushcart Prizes 2014, and has been published extensively.
