In Full Velvet Book Launch & Queer Valentine’s Dance Party

Jenny Johnson, winner of the 2016 Whiting Award and Hodder Fellowship at Princeton, launches her much-anticipated book of poems In Full Velvet, with readings, drinks, and dancing. With readings by Jenny Johnson, Rickey Laurentiis, Soham Patel, and Natalie Diaz, who will also emcee & deejay. With complimentary drinks, photobooth, and other V-day specialties sponsored by Sarabande Books. Co-presented with WORD Bookstore. Readings 7pm – 8:30pm, dancing 8:30pm – 10pm.

About the authors:

Jenny Johnson is a recipient of the 2015 Whiting Writers’ Award, and the 2016 Hodder Fellowship at Princeton. She lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Rickey Laurentiis is the author of Boy with Thorn, selected by Terrance Hayes for the 2014 Cave Canem Poetry Prize (University of Pittsburgh Press). He is recipient of a 2014 fellowship from the Civitella Ranieri Foundation in Italy, a 2013 Creative Writing Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, and a 2012 Ruth Lilly Poetry Fellowship.

Soham Patel is a Kundiman fellow. Two of her chapbooks, and nevermind the storm (Portable Press at Yo-Yo Labs), and Riva: A Chapter (kitchen-shy press) came out in 2013. Her work has been featured at Fact-Simile Editions, Copper Nickel, Denver Quarterly and various other places.

Natalie Diaz was born and raised in the Fort Mojave Indian Village in Needles, California, on the banks of the Colorado River. She is Mojave and an enrolled member of the Gila River Indian Tribe. Her first poetry collection, When My Brother Was an Aztec, was published by Copper Canyon Press.
