George Clinton of Parliament Funkadelic

George Clinton is one of the foremost innovators of funk music and the mastermind behind the bands Parliament and Funkadelic, a.k.a. the P-Funk All Stars.

On the occasion of his memoir, Brothas Be, Yo Like George, Ain’t That Funkin’ Kinda Hard on You?: A Memoir, MMI presents an evening of conversation with Clinton, with a screening of the groundbreaking cult-favorite TV special Cosmic Slop, which was hosted by Clinton, and a book signing.

The psychedelic tour de force, three-part Cosmic Slop (Dirs. Reginald Hudlin, Warrington Hudlin, Kevin Rodney Sullivan. 1994, 83 mins. Digital projection) initially generated controversy when it aired on HBO, for its provocative depictions of class and racial tensions. Cosmic Slop was often compared to The Twilight Zone. This 20th-anniversary screening will be followed by a conversation with George Clinton, moderated by James Mtume, the Grammy-winning recording artist, former Miles Davis band member, and current New York talk radio show host. The discussion will be followed by a book signing with Clinton (books will be available for purchase at the Museum).
