Glenn Ligon and Carl Hancock Rux at The New School

Reflecting on “Comrades and Lovers”, Ligon’s site-specific, Walt Whitman-inspired neon installation at The New School, Ligon will discuss his exploration of American history, literature, race and society across a body of work that builds critically on the legacies of modern painting and more recent conceptual art. Award-winning poet, playwright and novelist Carl Hancock Rux will respond through a live spoken word performance. Ligon’s work has been celebrated internationally, most recently through a curatorial project organized with Nottingham Contemporary and Tate Liverpool; at Regen Project, Los Angeles; and the 2015 Venice Biennale.

Co-Sponsored by The New School Art Collection, with a reception to follow in the Event Cafe.

The Visiting Artists Lecture Series is sponsored by the School of Art, Media, and Technology (AMT) at Parsons The New School for Design. The lecture series invites renowned artists from across the globe to give free public presentations each Wednesday.
