Governors Island Walk

Despite years of history, for most New Yorkers Governors Island might as well have popped out of the ocean when it became open to the general public in 2003. Join Albert and James for a 90-minute walk through this amazing facet of the New York harbor.

We’ll talk about cross-dressing Governors, the Wright Brothers, Revolutionary War submarines, the first gay rights organization in America, hammocks, a landmark case for freedom of speech, mini-golf, Cold War politics and more. In addition we will get some AMAZING views of lower Manhattan, Statue of Liberty and the New York Harbor. We will also pay our respects to a ventilation shaft.

This walk meets at Governors Island, and you’ll receive exact meeting instructions the day before the walk.

During the weekends there are ferries going to Governors Island from both Brooklyn and Manhattan. You can also use the East River Ferry to get there as well. Check here for directions and to see which is most convenient for you. http://www.govisland.com/html/visit/directions.shtml There is also a kayak dock in case you are awesome. Currently no zip line access.
