Join us for a conversation between artist Heather Dewey-Hagborg and curator Lindsay Howard, exploring the intersection of art, science and technology. Inspired by Dewey Hagborg’s Stranger Visions project, on display as part of the Art Wall on Third and Art in the Windows exhibition series, the conversation addresses her process of collecting and analyzing genetic material from public spaces, as well as broader themes such as privacy, genetic determinism and interdisciplinary approaches to research.
Heather Dewey-Hagborg is an information artist who is interested in exploring art as research and public inquiry. Traversing media ranging from algorithms to DNA, her work seeks to question fundamental assumptions underpinning perceptions of human nature, technology and the environment. Heather has shown work internationally at events and venues including the Poland Mediations Bienniale, Jaaga art and technology center in Bangalore, the Monitor Digital Festival in Guadalajara, MoMA PS1, the New Museum, Eyebeam, Clocktower Gallery and the 92Y Tribeca in New York City. Her work has been widely discussed in the media, from the New York Times and the BBC to TED and Wired. She is currently a PhD student in Electronic Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Lindsay Howard is a curator exploring how the Internet is shaping art and culture. In 2010, she founded the exhibition program at 319 Scholes, which has since supported twenty group and solo exhibitions featuring the work of over three hundred artists working at the intersection of art and technology. She also works as an independent curator and has produced exhibitions for various institutions both nationally and abroad, including Fe Gallery (Pittsburgh, PA), Eyebeam Art + Technology Center (New York, NY), Internet Week New York (New York, NY), Art Micro Patronage (online), Tumblr (New York, NY), Phillips (New York, NY) and MU (Eindhoven, NL).

Artist Dialogues Series provide an open forum for understanding and appreciation of contemporary art. Artists are paired with critics, curators, gallerists, writers or other artists to converse about art and the potential of exploring new ideas.
