Have you ever wondered how Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher made his intriguing tessellations? Did you know that homemaker Marjorie Rice found tessellating pentagons that mathematicians missed? Neither was a mathematician, but each was challenged by a mathematical problem, and each found a way to solve it. Listen as mathematician Doris Schattschneider describes how diligence and creativity yielded both mathematical and artistic wonders. Doris will be introduced by Dr. Robert Fathauer, mathematical artist, puzzle designer, author, and curator.
