Laura Sims and Ann Beattie

Starting in 2003, poet Laura Sims carried on a correspondence with noted experimental novelist David Markson. David, whose beloved Wittgenstein’s Mistress was praised by David Foster Wallace as “pretty much the high point of experimental fiction in this country,” was a key figure in the Greenwich Village literary world (and a Strand regular!).

For seven years until his death in 2010, he and Laura, then just beginning her poetry career, shared their thoughts and experiences as pen-pals. Tracking two writers at very different times in their creative lives, Fare Forward charts the growth of their friendship. This is the first collection of Markson’s letters ever published and shows the intimate side of an erudite and fascinating writer.

Laura will share her stories of David Markson with writer Ann Beattie.
