London’s Art Macabre Death Drawing Salon: The Anatomical Venus

Tonight, join us as we welcome the London-based Art Macabre Death Drawing salon with a special Anatomical Venus themed event at the Morbid Anatomy Museum for their New York premiere. Participants will have the opportunity to draw from life a nude female figure posing and painted as an Anatomical Venus. Explore the uncanny experience of sketching this living version of the classic 18th century waxwork anatomical model, complete with body-painted organs and a waxy complexion. A specially selected playlist of music will be played to listen to as you sketch. Art Macabre believes that everyone can enjoy drawing, given the right inspiration. All levels welcome.

Directed by Nikki Shaill, Art Macabre have encouraged thousands of participants to explore through drawing themes of death and dying, memento mori, the human figure and the nude body.

Art Macabre regularly holds drawing events at a range of venues from the Tower of London after-dark to East London basement bars.Based in a church crypt, their drawing events often feature costumes, props, narrative and music. They have held events as part of Death Salon UK, the Congress for Curious People, Royal Academy, British Museum’s Day of the Dead, Barts Pathology Museum and outside in London cemeteries.

“I’ve been along to Art Macabre events now and think what they are doing is very interesting. I was somewhat pleasantly surprised by the very broad range of people who attended. Its not a judging environment, encouraging people to come and draw. Ican endorse it. Its a very lovely calming and oddly meditative experience.” Jonathan Ross BBC 2 Radio Arts Show

“Imaginative, intimate and inspirational, Art Macabre events are everything that you could want from a drawing event – or any night out, for that matter.” Katie Antoniou, Time Out.
