Madeleine Albright & Richard Williamson – Responsibility to Protect: Can It Make A Difference?

A conversation with Secretary Madeleine Albright and Ambassador Richard WIlliamson, moderated by Michael Abramowitz, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

In 2005, the United States, along with all other member states of the United Nations, agreed that they share a “responsibility to protect” individuals from genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and ethnic cleansing.

But nearly twenty years after the Rwandan genocide, the record of the international community in protecting civilians is mixed, as recent cases in Syria, Sudan and Libya demonstrate. In the context of a new report on Responsibility to Protect, we will ask what other steps are necessary to help us realize our vision of “Never Again.”
