Magicians and Mediums at Green-Wood Cemetery

A magician killed by his own autopsy, a woman who spoke to the dead, and a girl who stopped eating and got second sight—all are now entombed among the nearly 600,000 graves in Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery.

On this Halloween weekend tour, we will pay our respects to these illusionists and spiritualists, as well as uncover some of the occult symbolism hidden on the tombs. Established in 1838, Green-Wood was planned as a Victorian garden of mourning, predating Central Park and the Metropolitan Museum, with winding paths amid 478 acres of glacier-carved terrain.

Led by our resident cemetery aficionado Allison Meier, come prepared for a walk through some of the stranger forgotten stories of New York City.
