Martha Redbone: Bone Hill Concert

In this reading of an interdisciplinary musical theater work-in-progress inspired by neo-soul singer-songwriter Martha Redbone’s family lineage in the Appalachian Mountains, a cast of twelve actors/musicians tell the epic story of one woman’s return to her homeland on Black Mountain in Harlan County, Kentucky.

Spanning the lives and stories of four generations of Cherokee women, Redbone travels back in time to her own childhood and beyond into the memories and tales of her ancestors. It is a story about the simplicity and sacredness of the family’s connection to the land and the ruptures that threaten to extinguish it. The journey brings to light an important piece of American history that has remained untold.

Come early for a conversation between Martha Redbone, writer/musician Greg Tate, poet/vocalist LaTasha Diggs, and director Roberta Uno.
