Martin Halpern Chamber Operas

halpernComposer/librettist Martin Halpern returns to Shetler Studios, 244 W. 54th St., NYC, with two chamber operas, “The Sculptor” and “The Hour Glass,” both freely based on plays by Ibsen and Yeats, performed in the intimate setting of Shetler Studios.  Singers are soprano Alisa Peterson and baritone Jim Trainor, accompanied on piano by Earl Buys. Each opera centers around a dream scene in which a successful and admired mana sculptor in the first opera and a theology professor in the secondis visited by a female character who makes him confront the regrets and self-doubts that rankle his conscious mind. When each awakes from the dream, he faces conscious reality with a deepened awareness of his true state.
