Mystery and Benevolence Bash

The American Folk Arts Museum (at 2 Lincoln Plaza, Columbus Ave. between w. 65th and W. 66th Sts., take 1 subway to 65th St.) will host the Mystery and Benevolence Bash! on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, from 7 to 10 pm. The event is a celebration of 19th-century art, music, dance, fun, and refreshment. Guests are encouraged to come in Victorian-era dress, as there will be a costume contest. There will also be 19th-century parlor games, silhouettes of guests done by artist Jenny Lee Fowler, dancing to the Melody Allegra Band, instruction in cotillion and reel dances from dance historian Susan de Guardiola, as well as vintage cocktails and sweet and savory snacks evocative of the era.

The Mystery and Benevolence Bash! will take place in the galleries housing the museum’s current exhibition, Mystery and Benelovence: Masonic and Odd Fellows Art. Event guests can discover the hidden symbolism behind Masonic and Odd Fellow art from trained museum guides.

Tickets are $20 for members, students, and seniors, $25 for non-members. To purchase tickets visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mystery-and-benevolence-bash-tickets-20261346232 or call Suzanne De Vegh, 212.595.9533.
