Old and New Money: 5th Ave and Central Park West

At the turn of the century, the old money of New York began to settle along the eastern side of Central Park — Fifth Avenue — to build classic mansions of distinction.

By contrast, the new money — unwelcome on Fifth Avenue — formed its own community on the other side of the park — Central Park West. Stops include the Dakota, the Prasada and the Payne Whitney, Harry Sinclair, James Duke and Henry Clay Frick mansions.

This tour ends at approximately 12:30 pm.

Meet on the steps of Ukranian Institute at 2 East 79th Street between Madison and Fifth Avenues. Subway: 6 to 77th Street.

Pre-registration for all tours is required at least 24 hrs in advance. Attendees will be emailed details of the tour — with specific meeting location and additional directions 24 hrs in advance of the tour. All tours happen rain or shine.
