Panel: Caribbean Immigration

This Caribbean Heritage Month, the museum focuses on a community that comprises nearly 20% of New York City’s immigrant community. Political scientist Christina Greer, author of Black Ethnics, shares her work on Caribbean immigrant political identities. Greer is joined in discussion by Council Member Jumaane Williams, who represents Brooklyn’s vibrant West Indian Flatbush neighborhood, and CUNY Grad Center sociologist Phil Kasinitz.

Additionally, the Caribbean arts and cultural non-profit caribBEING, which has embarked on a year-long project exploring Caribbean immigrant identity in NYC, will share highlights from its project.

This event is free and seating is first-come, first-served. Doors will open at 6pm. Continue the conversation over dinner and drinks! Russ & Daughters Cafe welcomes Tenement Talks visitors. Those with proof of purchase from the Museum Shop will receive a 10% discount that evening only.
