PEN World Voices Festival | US Borders and the Central American Diaspora

The map of North and Central America is marked with the deaths of hundreds of thousands of migrants and refugees who have tried to escape their circumstances and seek a life in the United States. Many thousands are held in ICE detention centers, some are forced to wear ankle bracelets, and countless others are deported back. What is happening today in the US-Mexico Border and federal immigration courts? How does the media shape our views on immigration? And what can we do to fight back and help integrate migrants and refugees into our society?

A conversation between novelist and memoirist Reyna Grande, who crossed the border when she was nine years old; Francisco Cantú, former Border Patrol officer and essayist; award-winning novelist Francisco Goldman; and immigration attorney Rebecca Sosa.

This event is curated by Valeria Luiselli.

Co-presented with the Nuyorican Poets Cafe

Nuyorican Cafe, 236 E 3rd St, New York, NY 10009
