Poetry Reading - Discovery Poetry Contest Winners

The 60-year-old Discovery Poetry Contest has unearthed many gems over the years, including John Ashbery (1952); former U.S. Poet Laureate Mark Strand (1965); Lucille Clifton (1969); and Nick Flynn (1999), among others. Back when they won the contest, none of those poets had published a collection (a cornerstone of Discovery since its beginnings), and most weren’t well-known. This year’s winners— who read their work at this intimate event — are: Mario Chard, of Campbell, CA; Franke Varca, of New York, NY; Rebecca Hazelton, of Madison, WI; and Rosalie Moffett, of Lafayette, IN). In addition to the reading, each receives a cash prize of $500 and publication in Boston Review.
