Passover is called “Z’man Cheiruteinu,” meaning the festival of freedom. In this spirit, we will study the lives of four central figures within the Passover story: Yocheved (Moses’ mother), Miriam, Batya (Pharaoh’s daughter) and the midwives Shifrah and Puah. Using the Bible, rabbinic sources and contemporary perspectives.

Brief Bios

Rabbi Dan Bronstein is an ordained rabbi and holds a PhD in Jewish history. With over twenty years’ experience in Jewish education he now teaches for the departments of History and Sociology at Hunter College.

Rabbi Hayley Siegel received her rabbinical ordination from the Academy for Jewish Religion, the country’s only pluralistic, seminary located in Yonkers, New York, in May 2012. She is passionate about making Jewish tradition, history, custom and texts an organic, ongoing part of one’s life.

Abe Lebovic is a career Jewish educator, cantorial soloist, writer and actor.
