Questions for a Resilient Future: What Connects Culture and Conscience?

Margaret Mead said, “Our humanity rests upon a series of learned behaviors, woven together into patterns that are infinitely fragile and never directly inherited.”

The Center for Humans and Nature, in partnership with the Museum’s Center for Biodiversity and Conservation and the public radio program On Being, considers how the tapestry of humanity is woven. What does it mean to be human? Explore the interactions of culture and morality and meet other curious thinkers at the annual gathering, Questions for a Resilient Future.

This year’s gathering centers on the question: what are the connections between culture and conscience? The Center for Humans and Nature’s Senior Scholars, anthropologist Melvin Konner and social psychologist Jonathan Haidt, will offer brief talks in response to the question. They will further unravel their ideas in conversation with Krista Tippet, host of On Being.

This event complements the thoughtful online conversation that is in progress at the website HumansandNature.org on the relationships between culture and morality.
