Screening and Talk Back: I Learn America

This documentary film features the story of five young immigrants coming of age at the International High School at Lafayette in Brooklyn.

The filmmakers will screen a portion of the film, and then join their student subjects in a discussion on the experience of growing up as an immigrant in America as they strive to master English, adapt to life with families they haven’t seen in years, and create a future in a new land. Sociologist Phil Kasinitz, author of Inherting the City: The Children of Immigrants Come of Age, will also join the conversation.
