Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream; or, Earthy Whirl

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Come see and hear the Aesthetic Realism Theatre Company’s performance of Eli Siegel’s thrilling work “A Midsummer Night’s Dream; or, Earthy Whirl.” The event includes incidental music performed by Barbara Allen (flute) and Edward Green (harpsichord). In this production of Eli Siegel’s 1951 lecture on Shakespeare’s radiant, puzzling comedy of 1594, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Mr. Siegel, critic, poet, and founder of Aesthetic Realism, explains:

“Shakespeare was taken by the question What kind of world is this? He bows to a world both shimmering and obstructive…. Aesthetics can, while accepting the utmost in confusion, see the music that brings it all together. That is one of the sweet glories of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

There’s nothing people need more at this time than an accurate, courageous, lively, and beautiful way to understand the confusions in the world and oneself. That’s what is in this matinee of scintillating theatrical entertainment and tremendous cultural significance!
