Silent Film Series: | Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ (1925)

The first feature-length version of the epic story that has, since then, been remade in 1959, 2003, 2010 and 2016. Judah Ben-Hur, is a Jewish prince in Jerusalem during Roman rule, whose rift with his childhood friend, and Roman soldier, Messala, casts him into slavery and on a road to revenge that changes as his life crosses paths with Jesus.  Highlights include the epic sea-battle and chariot-race scenes.  Filmed in black-and-white, and tinted, with some scenes filmed in two-color Technicolor.
