Sosua – Dare to Dance Together

Performance followed by a discussion with producer Victoria Neznansky and cast members.

Produced by the YM&YWHA of Washington Heights and Inwood, the SOSUA project brought together acclaimed composer Liz Swados and Jewish and Dominican teenagers from Washington Heights, Manhattan, to develop a musical based on the true story of hundreds of Jewish refugees who, in 1938, set-tled in Sosua, Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic was the only country at the 1938 Evian Conference to grant asylum to Jews escaping Germany before the Holocaust. This performance is the culmination of an intergroup relations initiative seeded by the UJA Federation.
