Thomas Menino “Mayor for a New America”

Join Roosevelt House as they welcome former Mayor of Boston Thomas Menino and celebrate the publication of his memoir Mayor for a New America, in which he takes us behind-the-scenes of the crises and triumphs of his five terms in office. Boston experienced unprecedented economic growth during Mayor Menino’s time in office — and the city became the home to a new attitude of acceptance. Mayor Menino will explore the dynamics of urban politics and explains how what is possible on a local level provides inspiration for Washington. In his book he outlines the people-focused method he has tried to champion: “Do the small stuff so you can win the credibility to do the big stuff.” Mayor Menino will be interviewed by Owen Gutfreund, Associate Professor of Urban Affairs and Planning at Hunter College.
