Two New Chamber Operas by Jeremy Beck and Kenneth Fuchs

The Center for Contemporary Opera, a champion of new opera since 1982, will present chamber operas by Jeremy Beck and Kenneth Fuchs, April 29, 8 PM, at Symphony Space/Nimoy Theater, Broadway & 95th St., NYC.  “Black Water” is composed by Jeremy Beck based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates, and is a slightly-veiled fictional account of the tragic 1969 drowning death of Mary Jo Kopechne when a passenger in the car driven by Senator Edward Kennedy.  Maeve Hoglund is the soprano, and conductor is Lidiya Yankovskaya. “Falling Man” is composed by Kenneth Fuchs, with text by Don DeLillo, author of the powerful post 9/11 novel of the same name.   In the opera, a man stumbles out of the falling rubble of the World Trade Center and witnesses the raw terror and chaos of the world-changing events of 9/11. Jarrett Ott, baritone, performs under conductor David Krane, who also conceived and adapted the work for the stage. Stage Director for both operas is Eugenia Arsenis.
