Village Walking Tour

Walk the tree lined neighborhood of west Greenwich Village, as tour leader Barry Feldman discusses the history behind New York City’s most colorful and dynamic neighborhood. Learn how the Village moved from a pastoral Dutch retreat to an English colonial neighborhood. We will discuss The Village, which is known for its Bohemian and artsy culture, alongside the neighborhood’s vibrant immigrant settlement. Admire stately brownstones, historic landmarks, including the William Hyde House and Twin Peaks.

Peek into secluded mid nineteenth century residential mews. Imagine the Village of Edgar Allen Poe, Zane Gray, Edna Vincent St. Millay, Jimmy Walker and Theodore Dreiser and contrast it to the contemporary buildings glass architecture along the Hudson.

For the first time we will visit Congregation Darech Amuno (also known as the Charles Street Shul) and gain insight to the Jewish Village of the past and present.

$24 adults $22 seniors and students

Time: 10:30 AM. Tour lasts approximately 2 ½ hours

Meeting Place: Meet on the SW corner of Christopher Street and 7th Avenue South, in front of United Cigars.
