Why Our Society likes Vampires. Or, Vampires R US

Some 220 vampire novels, from teen to adult, from detective, to romance, from gothic to modern, form the basis of this presentation.  Nina Auerbach writes: Every society creates the vampire it needs. In the last twenty years, our most popular vampires have all been desperately struggling to be moral despite being predators. This talk tries to answer the questions: why have we created this type of vampire and why do vampires have such traction in our current times. Hint: it’s not primarily about sex.
For ages 13 to 18 years.
