Join us for a very special free virtual tour for an exploration of birth control and childbirth from the 1870s into the 1930s. We will trace the whirlwind history of women’s reproductive health through the perspectives of two women who lived in 97 Orchard: Caroline Schneider—a German immigrant who helped operate a Lager Bier saloon and Rosaria Baldizzi—an Italian immigrant who raised two children during the Great Depression. Through their stories, we will consider the how immigrant women made decisions about contraception and childbirth, in the United States, and discuss the influential movements and figures that impacted their reproductive choices.
