16mm Cartoon Carnival #104: School of Hard Knocks

16mm Cartoon Carnival #104: School of Hard Knocks
Sunday, September 25 at 3PM
Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY, USA

WARNING: This program will contain adult content. Please read on…

It’s time for another big batch of archival 16mm (no digital!) animated cartoons from the 1920s through the 1950s+, straight from the Tommy José Stathes Archives—screened *in person* on Rubulad’s silver screen!

It’s September and for this month’s installment, we’re all going to the School of Hard Knocks together. Whether it be some classic and well known characters from the 1930s and 40s, or more obscure personalities, this program is an adventure through all sorts of animated trials, tribulations, and life lessons. Come on out for a potpourri of strange and (hopefully) enlightening little shorts—some of which involve rather carnal tales of an incredibly adult nature. Hint: One of the most infamous and controversial adult animated cartoons of the 1920s will be shown, alongside similar examples from later decades. This time around, we recommend that attendees be 18 and up.

Be sure to bring all your offbeat film-loving friends out to see these now-rare cartoons the way they were meant to be seen—projected on ‘reel’ film, and enjoyed with a physical audience.

Rubulad will have bar refreshments and some light snacks will available (typically regular and vegetarian hot dogs, possibly also hamburgers). Please support the venue for all drinks consumed. Bar/food are *cash only.*

-This show WILL sell out –
We have limited seating capacity. You and your friends must grab advance tickets quickly, while you still can!
~Arrive on time for good seats~

Schedule:
3pm seating and 1/2 Happy Hour
3:30pm introductions begin, followed by two sets of cartoons (including an intermission)

NO EARLY BIRDS!
Doors open at 3pm, and we can only let our guests enter the venue at 3pm—no earlier than that. Not to worry! There will be time to find seats and grab some bar refreshments before the show begins…

Safety protocols:
1. Vaccinations against COVID-19 are highly recommended.
2. Masks are optional but recommended.

Once you purchase tickets, the Bushwick, Brooklyn venue address will be shared. For inquires, contact [email protected]
