16mm Cartoon Carnival #106: We Want Santa

It’s time for two big batches of 16mm (no digital!) animated cartoons from the 1920s through the 1950s, straight from the Tommy José Stathes Archives—screened *in person* on Rubulad’s silver screen!

For program #106, we’ll be chock full of festive animated oddities and curiosities in celebration of the Christmas season. This holly jolly event day features *two* entirely different sets of films made in the 1930s through the 1950s. In addition to strange snowy scenarios, silly tree trimming parties, a couple of sing-alongs, and Christmas morning gift-giving follies, there will be a few familiar faces like Popeye, Grampy, Scrappy, Frosty, Santa and his elves, and even Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer!

Video teaser: TBA

SPECIAL ATTRACTION: For our 6pm program, we’ll be joined by ragtime pianist Charlie Judkins who will be providing period mood music, as well as live accompaniment for a couple of silent era shorts.

The Christmas Carnival is a beloved annual tradition in our screening series. Be sure to bring all your family and friends out for this much-anticipated opportunity to see these classic and now-rare cartoons the way they were meant to be seen—projected on ‘reel’ film, and enjoyed with a physical audience!

DO YOUR LAST MINUTE XMAS SHOPPING WITH US!
As a fundraiser for the Cartoon Carnival series, we’ll have various goodies for sale—such as DVDs, collectible enamel pins (Betty Boop, Gumby, Koko the Clown, and others!) and brand new cartoon character t-shirts in various sizes! This will be the perfect opportunity for you to grab some last minute stocking stuffers and to support our film series at the same time.

EATS & DRINKS:
